We are very saddened and concerned to learn of the fire that broke out at Sharya camp in Duhok for Yazidi IDPs. We are also deeply concerned about the lives and prospects for Yazidis, and we call for the situation in their areas to be normalized so that they can return home with dignity and in peace.

The Kurdistan Parliament on 26 May held a sitting presided over by the Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq, for the second reading of the first amendments to Law No. 3 of 2019, the Law on Illegally Taken or Used Land in Municipalities of Kurdistan Region.

The Kurdistan Parliament on 25 May held a sitting to discuss murders, suicides, domestic violence and possession of weapons with the relevant KRG ministers, and to ask the KRG what it is doing to reduce such crimes.

Kurdistan Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci on 19 May spoke at a major conference on the idea of a Constitution for the Kurdistan Region, saying that while the rights of Kurdistan’s original communities are enshrined in law, a modern constitution would more fully determine their rights.

The Kurdistan Parliament on 18 May held a sitting presided over by the Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq, for first readings of several bills. MPs also passed the Law on the Ministry of Electricity in Kurdistan Region and approved Ms. Muni Yukhna Yaqu for the post of the Head of the Independent Human Rights Commission.

The election and the vote of confidence given to the first KRG cabinet were pivotal and embodied the people's will and desire for self-government and democracy, for those who were oppressed to achieve their legitimate political, civil and cultural rights.

The Kurdistan Parliament on 5 May held the first reading of the Bill on the Criminal Court for crimes by ISIS and bills on preservation of documents and archives, and the second reading of Bill on the Ministry of Electricity in Kurdistan Region.
