Parliament holds second reading of Bill on Sale and Lease of Public Assets

Kurdistan Parliament held the second reading of the Bill on Sale and Lease of Public Assets in Kurdistan Region. The Presidency decided to close an ad hoc committee's investigation into an MPs' allegation of threats, due to lack of evidence. Speaker Faiq called for amendments to address shortcomings in the Law on Combating Violence Against Women, and commended campaigners for their bravery and perseverance on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Order of Business for sitting of 25th November 2020

The Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament calls MPs to a sitting on Wednesday 25th November 2020 at 11am, the tenth ordinary sitting of the autumn session of the second year of Kurdistan Parliament’s fifth term. The Presidency of Parliament announces the order of business of the sitting as follows:

Deputy Speaker Hawrami welcomes delegation from North Kurdistan

Deputy Speaker Hawrami told the delegation that Kurdistan Region’s political leadership has banned intra-Kurdish armed conflict, but no force should abuse this principle for its own ends by constantly attacking Kurdistan Region's institutions and entities, because each part of Kurdistan is distinct.

Parliament’s Presidency attends funeral of Erbil Governor Dr. Firsat Sofi

19 November - Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq , Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami, and Secretary Muna Kahveci attended the funeral of Dr. Firsat Sofi, the Governor of Erbil and former MP in Kurdistan Parliament’s fourth term.

Parliament’s Presidency conveys condolences on passing of Nadr Muhammad Qadir

Kurdistan Parliament’s Presidency on 19 November conveyed their condolences on the passing of Nadr Muhammad Qadir, who was a MP in Kurdistan Parliament’s first term, in the following message:

Secretary Muna Kahveci conveys best wishes on Turkmen Language and Culture Day

"The 17th of November is the annual Turkmen Language and Culture Day, and the Kurdistan Parliament voted to designate it as the official national day of the Turkmen community, passing Resolution No. 1 of 2020, with the aim of strengthening and enriching multiculturalism in the Kurdistan Region."

POSTPONED: Order of Business for sitting of 17 November 2020: Iraq's federal Fiscal Deficit Coverage Law

POSTPONED: The Presidency of Kurdistan Parliament has decided to postpone the tenth ordinary sitting scheduled for 17th November, until further notice. The original order of business of the postponed sitting was the following:

12 November - We view with deep concern the latest actions of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, which disregard the values of coexistence and co-operation and the principle of federalism established by the Iraqi Constitution, in passing a law on the morning of 12 November 2020 that violates the rights of the people of Kurdistan.

Parliament Presidency’s condolences on passing of Sheikh Muhammad Tahir Muhammad Zain Abidain Khorasani

Kurdistan Parliament’s Presidency on 5 November conveyed their condolences on the passing of Sheikh Muhammad Tahir Muhammad Zain Abidain Khorasani, who was a MP in Kurdistan Parliament’s first ever term and had served as the vice-chair of Parliament’s Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee:

Secretary Muna Kahveci statement on PKK's attacks on Peshmerga forces

Any attack on Peshmerga forces is regarded as an attack on Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistani people...We reject any attempt to create chaos and fratricidal conflict, and call on the PKK to respect Kurdistan Region's constitutional status, and to stop creating problems for the KRG and the people of Kurdistan Region and attempting to destroy peaceful coexistence, political harmony and unity of the parties.
