Dr. Hemin Hawrami, Deputy Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament

Dr. Hemin Hawrami (KDP), full name Hayman Ahmed Hma Salah, is from Halabja, and was born in Slemani governorate. He was elected to the Kurdistan Parliament in September 2018, and was elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament in February 2019. 

Dr. Hawrami is a member of the KDP Political Bureau. He was the head of the KDP's Foreign Relations Office until February 2017. From February 2017, he was Senior Assistant to President Masoud Barzani for political and diplomatic affairs, until his election to the Kurdistan Parliament.

Before his selection for the KDP Political Bureau, Dr. Hawrami was the youngest member of the KDP's Leadership Council, from late 2010 to late 2022. 

Dr. Hawrami has a PhD in International Relations and Political Science from Soran University on the European Union's foreign policy challenges in the Middle East, awarded in December 2020. His Doctoral thesis was the first PhD in Kurdistan Region to be written and discussed in English.

Dr. Hawrami has a bachelor's degree in English literature (1999) from Salahaddin University, Erbil, and a Masters degree in International Relations from the University of Kurdistan-Hewler (2016).

Dr. Hawrami was an active member of the Kurdistan Students Union from 1989 to 2000. He has authored eights books in Kurdish, and for several years he translated numerous political writings between English and Kurdish.
