Speaker and Deputy Speaker support search for missing persons of Halabja

MPs from the Martyrs’ Affairs, Genocide and Political Prisoners Committee welcomed
Mr. Khalil Muhammad Salih, one of persons who went missing for decades in the aftermath of the Halabja chemical bombardment of 1988.

Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq also met with Mr. Salih and thanked the family that raised him in Iran. She hoped that all the missing persons from the Halabja tragedy will be found. She said, “The Kurdistan Parliament makes every effort to help find those who disappeared in the Halabja tragedy.”

Mr. Salih and his family were also welcomed by Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami. Mr. Hawrami thanked those who helped find the missing persons of Halabja. He hoped that the organizations that help families of Anfal and chemical bombing victims leave no stone unturned to find the missing. He also stated that the Kurdistan Parliament will do all it can to find them.

32 years ago, Iraq’s Ba’ath regime bombarded civilians in the city of Halabja with chemical weapons and carried out a genocidal campaign in Kurdistan called the Anfal. Khalil Muhammad Salih, who was nine months old at the time, has been found recently and reunited with his family.
