Deputy Speaker Hawrami chairs meeting to organize four new Parliament committees

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 24 October chaired a meeting to discuss the creation of four new Parliament committees. MPs voted on 29 September to increase the number of committees from 15 to 19, so that MPs can be more focused in their committee work and aims. The membership of the committees continues to be based on the number of seats that each party own in the last general election.

Deput Speaker Hawrami together with Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci and the Chief of the Divan of Parliament Mr. Ardalan discussed with the heads of the committees the rearrangement of the committees and the distribution of MPs within them, according to their party’s ratio of parliamentary seats.

Mr. Hawrami said that committees’ work on draft legislation is vital. The chairs of the four new committees will be from these parties: KDP for chair of the Committee on Protection of Women’s Rights; PUK for chair of the Committee on Reconstruction and Investment, Change Movement (Gorran) for chair of the Interior Committee; and Kurdistan Islamic Union for chair of the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
