Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami meets with US Consul General Steven Fagin

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 29 September welcomed US Consul General Steven Fagin. They discussed the dialogue between the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region on outstanding issues, Parliament's legislative priorities, and progress in increasing cooperation between committees and MPs of the Iraqi Council of Representatives and the Kurdistan Parliament. 

Deputy Speaker Hawrami informed Consul General Fagin that all the political forces support drafting a Kurdistan Constitution, which will enshrine powers and rights of the people and institutions, and will further cement the rights, participation and representation of Kurdistan Region's ethnic and religious components. 

Mr. Fagin said that the US supports the discussions between Kurdistan Region and Baghdad to resolve pending issues. 

Mr. Hawrami said that all Kurdistan's parliamentary blocs support implementing broad reforms in many sectors. He also expressed the grave concerns of the Kurdistan Parliament about the Iraqi Provincial Elections law, which as it stands does not allow IDPs to vote. He said that Kurdistan Parliament' is making concerted efforts to get the law amended so that IDPs can vote.
