Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami: The people of Kurdistan have right to a transparent, successful election process, we all bear political and legal responsibility to deliver it

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 17 April 2022 received France’s Consul General, Mr. Olivier Decottignies. They discussed the political situation and developments in Kurdistan Region and Iraq, and the issue of the next Kurdistan Parliament election.

Regarding taking the necessary legal and political steps for the next Kurdistan Parliament election, Deputy Speaker Hawrami said that the people have the right to transparent, free and fair elections being held, and that all political sides bear the political and legal responsibility to deliver it.

Dr. Hawrami stressed that Parliament should fulfill its legal responsibility to make preparations for a timely election, so that the democratic process in Kurdistan Region continues.

The Deputy Speaker said, “It is the political and legal responsibility of all of us to prepare the ground for a successful and transparent election. The right of the people of Kurdistan to elections should not be infringed and the democratic process should continue. In parallel, the parliamentary blocs and the parties need to reach a consensus and understanding. No side should dismiss other sides’ efforts, nor prevent Parliament’s work and Parliament’s procedural and legislative duties.”

Dr. Hawrami and Consul General Decottignies also discussed the political situation and latest developments in the wider region. The Deputy Speaker expressed his gratitude for France’s ongoing support for Kurdistan Region.
