In Moscow Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami visits Institute of Oriental Studies and its Kurdish section

On his official visit to the Russian Federation, Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 25 February visited the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, and was welcomed by Dr. Alikber Alikberov, President of the Institute, and senior consultants and researchers.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami, Dr. Alikberov and the Institute’s consultants discussed the security and political situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the wider area, the danger of the resurgence of ISIS, and the historic relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the people and Government of Russia.

In addition to emphasizing the need to strengthen relations in all sectors, Dr. Hawrami said that an agreement between the Kurdistan Parliament and the Institute of Oriental Studies of Russia would facilitate exchange of knowledge and research, within the framework of parliamentary work.

Deputy Speaker Hawrami gave an overview of Kurdistan Parliament’s number of seats, parties, standing committees, and legislative and scrutiny work, and said that drafting and passing the Kurdistan Constitution is necessary and important for the Kurdistan Region.

The Deputy Speaker visited the Kurdish section of the Institute of Oriental Studies, which presents their research on Kurdistan monthly and annually. Dr. Hawrami thanked them and reaffirmed Kurdistan Parliament’s support for the Institute’s work.
