Kurdistan Parliament condemns Iran's bombings and attacks on several areas of Kurdistan Region

At Kurdistan Parliament’s sitting of 29 September 2022, on behalf of Parliament the Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami condemned the missile and suicide drone attacks by the IRGC on 28 September on several areas of Kurdistan Region, which killed and injured civilians.

In Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq’s absence, Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami chaired the sitting. The statement follows below.

Dear honorable people of Kurdistan, dear Members of Parliament,

Yesterday, 28 September 2022, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) bombed several areas of the Kurdistan Region in Erbil and Slemani governorates, with several missiles and suicide drones.

A few days ago, they attacked some areas of Sidekan and Bradost.

As a result of these unjustified and inexcusable bombardments and attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran, several civilians were killed and others were injured. Civilian areas, schools and homes were the targets.

On behalf of the Kurdistan Parliament, we condemn these attacks in the strongest terms. We believe that there can be no pretext or justification for resorting to violence, missiles, military attacks and bombardments.

We the Kurdistan Parliament maintain our position that we seek friendship based on mutual respect, common interests, sovereignty and the principles of good neighbours, according to international law and customs on neighbouring countries. There is no support for attempts or moves to use Kurdistan Region’s territory to attack countries. We believe that resorting to military attacks will not solve problems, it will only complicate them.

The Kurdistan Parliament calls on the federal government and the international community to stop these attacks and violations of Kurdistan Region's and Iraq's territory and sovereignty.

We express our condolences to the families of the victims and we hope for the speedy recovery of the injured.
