Committees' news and meetings - 6 October 2019

Kurdistan Parliament's culture committee in a statement conveyed their condolences on the passing of Dr. Izzadin Mustafa Rasoul, one of the greatest academics and researchers of Kurdish history and literature. The Relations and Kurdish Diaspora Committee discussed with Turkey's Consul General the problems that Kurdistan's citizens face at airports and land borders.

Committees' recent meetings - 3 October 2019

Kurdistan Parliament's energy committee had a meeting to work on the bill to adopt Iraqi Law No. 9 of 2006 on the import and sale of petroleum products. The health committee met Erbil International Airport officials to discuss the problems with the process and quality control of importing medicines.

Parliament's committees this week met with Ibrahim Khalil customs and quality control officials; decided to submit a report to Parliament's Presidency on the problems in healthcare seen on fact-finding visits to Duhok, Koya and Erbil; met with workers' representatives of the Communist Party; and visited social care departments in Koya. They also pledged to seek help for families of Kurdish Syrian forces killed fighting alongside the Peshmerga in the war against ISIS.   

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker meets President of Canada’s Institute on Governance, Mr. Toby Fyfe

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 2nd October welcomed Mr. Toby Fyfe, CEO of the Canadian independent NGO for improving governance, the Institute of Governance. Mr. Fyfe said that their institute is working to strengthen fiscal federalism and decentralisation, and support plans for a law on general loans in Iraq.

Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq meets Czech Foreign Ministry Head of Middle East, Mr. Petr Hladik

Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 2nd October welcomed the Czech Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Head of the Middle East Department, Mr. Petr Hladik, with the Czech Consul General to the Kurdistan Region. Dr. Faiq said that it is important for the Kurdistan Region that foreign countries have diplomatic offices and consulates here. “We thank all the countries that have consulates in Erbil, as their presence has great importance for us,” she added.

Kurdistan Parliament delegation in Seoul visit departments of Korea National Assembly

A Kurdistan Parliament delegation led by Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 2nd October in Seoul visited several departments and areas of the Korean National Assembly, to understand how the Kurdistan Parliament can learn from the Korean legislature’s experiences and working methods.

A Kurdistan Parliament delegation led by Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 2 October in Seoul met with Korea National Assembly Speaker Moon Hee-sang and Korean MPs. The heads of the KDP and PUK blocks Mr. Omed Khoshnaw (KDP) and Mr. Jamal Haruty (PUK) were also at the meeting. The Kurdistan Parliament MPs are in Seoul to forge closer inter-parliamentary ties with the Korean National Assembly, and to learn from its legislative & oversight work.

Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq meets families of Peshmerga soldiers captured by ISIS

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 1 October met with families of Peshmerga soldiers who were captured and likely imprisoned by ISIS during the war against the terrorist organisation. Speaker Faiq said that the Kurdistan Parliament does its utmost to help families of the captured Peshmerga - the freedom we enjoy in Kurdistan is thanks to the Peshmerga force's loyalty and service to their country. The Speaker said, “We follow up on all cases of prisoners and do our best to obtain their freedom.”
