Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 7 November met with the Institute for International Law and Human Rights, a legislation capacity-building consultancy based in the US.

Secretary Muna Kahveci makes speech on empowerment of women at MERI Forum

Secretary Kahveci at the MERI Forum on 6 November said that several laws passed by the Kurdistan Parliament guarantee womens’ political and social rights. She also spoke on the importance of women’s self-confidence in their abilities as being no less than those of men socially, politically, administratively and in government positions.

Statement on case of journalists Amanj Babani, Lana Muhammed and their son by Committee on Social Affairs, Protection of Women's Rights & Human Rights

Per Article 44 of the Kurdistan Parliament’s Internal Rules of Procedure, the Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament asked the Committee on Social Affairs, Protection of Women's Rights and Human Rights to follow up on the death of journalists Amanj Babani, Lana Mohammed and their son.

Committees' recent meetings - 7 November 2019

The Integrity and Complaints Committee decided to submit a report on the public's complaints about Garmian’s Directorate for Development Planning to the Kurdistan Region Integrity Commission. The Committee on Kurdistani Areas outside the KRG Administrative Area and British Consulate officials discussed the situation in those areas and the violations against IDP voters' rights in the amended Iraq Provincial Elections Law. 

Committees’ recent meetings – 6 November 2019

The social affairs committee discussed the text of a bill on the rights and privileges of patients; The Legislative Committee discussed the bill on anti-smuggling of oil and oil products, and decided to submit it to Parliament's Presidency to be scheduled for its first reading.

Speaker Rewas Faiq holds meeting with Kurdistan Region President and Prime Minister on current situation in Iraq

To discuss the current uncertain political situation in Iraq and in the Middle East and its impact on the Kurdistan Region, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on 5 November chaired a meeting of the three presidencies of the Kurdistan Region. Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewas Faiq, KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami, Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, Secretary Muna Kahveci and several other officials participated in the meeting.

Committees’ recent meetings – 5 November 2019

The Peshmerga Committee visited Peshmerga Unit 80 to discuss Peshmerga's welfare, reform and transparency, and how to unify units 70 and 80 under the Peshmerga Ministry. The Commerce and Industry Committee discussed a bill on quality control in the Kurdistan Region, which consists of 11 articles. 

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami meets with Brookings Doha Center researchers

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on 4 November received Mr. Galip Dalay, a researcher at the Brookings Insitution's Doha Centre, and Ms. Mariya Petkova, Deputy Editor at Al Jazeera English. They discussed the latest political developments in Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Middle East.
