Committees’ recent meetings – 10 December 2019

A summary of Kurditan Parliament committees’ recent meetings and activities:

Parliament Affairs and Complaints Committee

9 December - The committee held their weekly meeting, led by the chair Dr. Esmail Sgery (KIU). The Committee discussed the work of the Diwan of Parliament, Parliament’s spending, and the offices of the Kurdistan Parliament in the governorates and cities of Kurdistan. 

The MPs decided to meet with the chief and deputy-chiefs of the Diwan of Parliament soon to look into the problems with Parliament’s work and administration.

Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research Committee

9 December - The committee held their usual meeting, led by the chair Mr. Abdulsalam Dolamari (KDP).

The committee reviewed their report on their visit to the University of Soran regarding a technical problem, and decided discuss the university’s problem with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

The MPs also discussed all the notes and requests from the public, and replied to them. 

Culture, Civil Society, Sports and Youth Committee 

9 December - The committee held their weekly meeting, led by the chair Ms. Salma Fatih (PUK).

The MPs discussed practical measures to promote Slemani as Kurdistan’s official capital of culture. They also discussed the importance of Kurdish national symbols.

They looked at all the notes and requests from the public and replied to them. One of the demands was to build a house museum in Sidakan district, with the aim of preserving Sidakan’s ancient culture and history.

The committee decided to establish a subcommittee to look at the shortcomings in the law on non-governmental organizations in Kurdistan, and to work on proposing amendments to the law.
