Deputy Speaker Hawrami in Berlin meets with German CDU and FDP MPs, visits KRG Representation
Deputy Speaker Hawrami in Berlin on 27 November met with MPs Paul Ziemiak the General Secretary of the CDU, and Bijan Djir-Sarai, foreign policy spokesman of the Free Democratic Party. He also visited KRG Representative Mr. Dilshad Barzani at the KRG Representation in Berlin, who accompanied him to the Bundestag meetings.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami will meet more German MPs today and tomorrow. Earlier this week he attended the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum, at the invitation of Germany’s Federal Foreign Office and the Korber Foundation.
Meetings with MPs Paul Ziemiak (CDU) and Bijan Djir-Sarai (FDP)
Mr. Hawrami had separate meetings in the Bundestag with MPs Paul Ziemiak the General Secretary of the CDU, and Bijan Djir-Sarai, foreign policy spokesman of the Free Democratic Party. In both meetings, they discussed relations between the Kurdistan Region and Germany.
Deputy Speaker Hawrami said to Mr. Ziemiak that Kurdistan Region is grateful to the CDU government coalition for extending Germany’s Peshmerga forces training mission.
The Deputy Speaker briefed the German MPs on the political, economic and humanitarian situation in Kurdistan Region.
He asked Mr. Ziemiak and Mr. Djir-Sarai to encourage more German support for Kurdistan’s humanitarian assistance to refugees and IDPs, and to continue Germany’s training and assistance to the Peshmerga forces.
Mr. Djir-Sarai said, “We follow and are aware of the political and economic developments in Kurdistan Region.” He said that Kurdistan is an important region in the Middle East for its peaceful coexistence between all ethnicities, religions and communities.
Both sides expressed their wish for closer inter-parliamentary ties between the Kurdistan Parliament and the Bundestag (the Federal Parliament of Germany).
Deputy Speaker Hawrami also met with Green Party MP Cem Özdemir.
He was accompanied at all his meetings by Mr. Dilshad Barzani, the KRG Representative to Germany.

Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami on the same day visited Mr. Dilshad Barzani, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Representative to Germany, at the Representation’s office.
Both stressed the importance of improving the Kurdistan Parliament’s and the KRG’s relations with the world’s parliaments and governments, of benefiting from the experiences of the most advanced nationas, and developing more economic and diplomatic relations.
Both also emphasised the important role of the KRG representations abroad in strengthening Kurdistan Region’s international relations.
Mr Hawrami commended Mr. Barzani for helping to strengthening relations between Kurdistan Region and Germany, in terms of the war against the ISIS, support for IDPs and refugees and assistance to the Peshmerga forces.
