Speaker Rewas Faiq receives Palestinian Consul General, Ambassador Nazmi Hazouri

The Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr Rewas Faiq on 29 October welcomed the Palestinian Consul General in Kurdistan Region, Ambassador Nazmi Hazouri. Speaker Faiq said that ties between the people of Palestine and Kurdistan go back decades. She expressed her concern over the reactions of some Palestinian civil activists regarding the events taking place in Western Kurdistan (Rojava).

Dr. Faiq also briefed Ambassador Hazouri on the current political situation in Iraq and in the Region, pointed to Iraqi demonstrators’ demands which focus on providing services, carrying out reforms, and eliminating bureaucracy and corruption in Iraq. She hoped that the demonstrations will also encourage Kurdistan Region to examine itself and provide better services to the people of Kurdistan.

Ambassador Hazouri said that the expressions by some activists and pro-Turkish Palestinian citizens about Turkey’s aggression on Rojava did not reflect the official position of the State of Palestine.

The Consul General also said, “We have historical relations with the Kurdish people and we have many points in common during our long struggle. The Palestinian official position was in support of the Arab League official statement. The positions of activists on social networking sites do not reflect Palestine’s policy. We are in Kurdistan today and our goal is to develop our relations and to elevate it to the highest levels”.
