Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq conveys best wishes on Kurdish Journalism Day

On the 124th anniversary of Kurdish journalism and the 24th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate, I congratulate all journalists and media workers in Kurdistan. I reaffirm my support for freedom of the press and for responsible, courageous, journalists who convey the truth. On this anniversary, I hope for the development of press freedom and adherence to the principles of democracy and human rights.

Since its history until today, Kurdish journalism has faced many challenges and great adversity, but thanks to professional and dedicated journalists, it has always overcome obstacles to become a field with dozens of newspapers, media outlets and serious, heavyweight journalists in the Kurdistan Region who have an impact on political, social and economic decisions.

On this anniversary, I ask academics, university teachers, experts, and all prominent and serious writers to play a positive role by helping to develop and strengthen a responsible media, in a way that strikes a balance between ensuring freedom of the press and protecting public and individuals’ rights.
