Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq receives 2021 report from Metro Center media freedom watchdog

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 25 January 2022 met with the staff of Metro Center, a media freedom watchdog, including Rahman Gharib the head of the organization Rahman, and Avan Jaff, the editor-in-chief of Women magazine.

Speaker Faiq thanked Metro Center for their annual report and and commended Metro Center for their continued defence of journalists' rights and freedom of expression. The Speaker also stressed the need for independent journalism and to follow the ethics and laws of the profession.

Speaker Faiq said, "We in the Kurdistan Parliament support the rights and demands of journalists, and at the same time journalism should not violate the rights and general freedoms of individuals in Kurdistan. Journalists should carry out their duties professionally and uphold the ethics of journalism."
