Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami welcomes Iranian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mahdi Safari

Kurdistan Parliament Deputy Speaker Dr. Hemin Hawrami on 19 October 2022 welcomed a high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran led by Deputy Foreign Minister Mahdi Safari; with Dr. Shahriar Heydari, Member of Iran’s Parliament; Dr. Ali Fekri, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy; and Dr. Alizadeh Tebtebashi, head of Iraqi affairs at the Foreign Ministry.

The Iranian delegation were accompanied by Iran’s Consul General in Erbil, Mr. Nasrollah Rashnoudi.

The Iranian delegation highlighted the importance of developing closer ties between their nations, especially in terms of commerce.

The delegation gave Deputy Speaker Hawrami an invitation from the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament to visit Iran to strengthen bilateral relations.

Dr. Hawrami said that the historic relations between the peoples of Kurdistan and Iran are important and he appreciated the Iranian Parliament Speaker’s invitation. He said, “This invitation provides an important opportunity to present Kurdistan Parliament’s role and position in term of law-making, and to increase mutual understanding and cooperation on developing economic and cultural relations.”

The Deputy Speaker gave an overview of Kurdistan Parliament’s priorities in the current term. He said that there is currently work on a bill to amend the Investment Law, and that Iranian companies like other nations can participate as foreign investors in the development of Kurdistan Region’s economic infrastructure.

The two sides agreed to make more efforts to reduce barriers to trade and economic ties. They exchanged views on how to implement steps to promote trade relations across their long border and facilitate movement for citizens and businessmen through the official border crossings.
