Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq chairs meeting on amendments to the Law on Kurdistan Region Shura Council

Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 25 October 2022 chaired a meeting to discuss amendments to the Law on the Shura Council, with Parliament’s Legislative Committee and Shura Council representatives.

The Speaker said that the Kurdistan Parliament supports legislative amendments to adapt to current circumstances.

The participants exchanged views on the Legislative Committee's report on the bill to amend the Shura Council Law (Law No. 14 of 2008). Their comments and suggestions will be used to enrich the draft amendments, which will be scheduled for their second reading at a sitting in the near future.

The Shura Council is independent but administratively falls under the KRG Ministry of Justice. Its role is to issue advisory opinions on administrative disputes and other issues, and to review draft legislation and regulations.
