Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq welcomes Armenian MP Mr. Rustam Bakoyan

Kurdistan Parliament Speaker Dr. Rewaz Faiq on 25 October 2022 welcomed Mr. Rustam Bakoyan, a Yazidi Member of the Armenian Parliament.

Speaker Faiq and Mr. Bakoyan discussed the historic relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Armenia and how to develop closer ties between their parliaments.

Speaker Faiq said, “The people of Kurdistan and Armenian have many cultural connections. In the Kurdistan Parliament, a seat is reserved for the Armenian community and Parliament places great importance on the rights of Kurdistan’s component communities, among them the Armenians.”

Mr. Bakoyan said that he hopes for stronger bilateral economic and trade relations and more student and academic exchanges between universities in Armenia and the Kurdistan Region.

Mr. Bakoyan is the head of the Iraqi-Armenian Parliamentary Friendship Group and a member of the Armenian Parliament’s Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee. He was accompanied by Armenia’s Consul General Mr. Arshak Manoukian.
