Secretary Muna Kahveci meets with Turkey’s Consul General Mr. Memet Mevlut Yakut

Kurdistan Parliament Secretary Muna Kahveci on 2 March 2023 met with Turkey’s Consul General in Kurdistan Region Mr. Memet Mevlut Yakut, accompanied by the Vice Consul General Mr. Arif Eram.

Secretary Kahveci and Consul General Yakut discussed the latest political, security and economic developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the wider region, the next Kurdistan Parliament election, and the talks about amendments to the Election Law and the Parliament seats reserved for representatives of Kurdistan’s ethnic and religious components.

On the method of electing the religious and ethnic communities’ representatives and protecting the communities’ rights, Secretary Kahveci stressed that the wishes and interests of the component communities themselves must be respected and taken into account when amending the Election Law.

Another topic of their discussion was strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Parliament and Turkey’s Parliament.
