KRG's negotiating team updates Kurdistan Parliament on talks with Baghdad on 2020 budget and oil

The Kurdistan Parliament held a sitting on 23 January to get an update from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s negotiating team on their talks with Iraqi Federal Government on the 2020 Iraq budget and oil. Dr. Galawesh Obeid Osman (KDP) discussed the need to establish a national counseling centre for children with developmental disorders and chronic conditions.

Representatives of diverse communities in the Nineveh Plains asked MPs for Peshmerga forces to return and militias to leave; the Parliament Affairs Committee and the Chief of Diwan of Parliament discussed Parliament's administration and support staff; the Peshmerga Committee received a petition to designate a National Peshmerga Day.

Committees’ recent meetings – 21 January 2020

The Relations Committee and Minister Safeen Dizayee, the Head of the Department of Foreign Relations discussed drafting a Kurdish Diaspora Bill. The Education Committee has received the Education Bill from the KRG Education Ministry and will collate their comments and suggestions on it.

Parliament passes Law on Reform of Pensions, Salaries, Allowances, Grants and Other Benefits

The Kurdistan Parliament on 16 January passed the Reform Law, with 89 MPs (out of 111 seats) voting in favour of the law. The aim of the Law on Reform of Pensions, Salaries, Allowances, Grants and Other Benefits is to bring fairness to the system of government employees’ and others’ salaries, pensions and benefits. It also aims to reduce waste of government resources and public funds.

Committees’ recent meetings – 19 January 2019 

In recent meetings the Culture Committee planned to work on a Kurdistan Olympic Committee Bill; and the Martyrs Committee urged the Martyrs Ministry to help repatriate remains of Anfal victims in Samawa mass graves.
